What it is
Fatigue is a feeling of low energy that can make everyday activities more difficult. It may be harder to stay active or concentrate. Fatigue can be caused by illness, medical treatment, lack of sleep, stress, or a busy lifestyle.
What you can do at home
What to do
- Rest between activities.
- Plan activities for the times of day when you have the most energy.
- Stop and rest before becoming overly tired.
- Organize your space to reduce unnecessary effort and movement.
To help you rest
- Keep your surroundings quiet, comfortable, and at a suitable temperature.
- Avoid noise and other distractions during rest periods.
- Maintain a regular sleep routine.
- Choose relaxing activities such as reading, listening to calming music, or taking a warm bath.
Healthy lifestyle habits
- Eat regularly throughout the day.
- Drink enough water.
- Do light to moderate physical activity, preferably in the morning or early afternoon.
When to seek medical attention
Persistent sadness, irritability, or loss of interest in usual activities
Frequent dizziness or problems with balance
Fatigue that continues despite rest or after following the recommended advice
Rapid weight loss with no clear cause
Ongoing difficulty sleeping, despite efforts to improve sleep habits
Difficulty carrying out everyday activities
For children and teenagers:
difficulty playing, concentrating, participating in school, or following usual routines

When to go to the hospital right away
Sudden weakness in an arm, leg, or one side of the body
Severe chest pain
Difficulty breathing that does not improve, especially if:
- breathing becomes increasingly difficult, even at rest
- there is a high-pitched breathing sound (stridor)
- the chest or abdomen pulls inward with each breath (retractions)
Unexplained loss of consciousness
Sudden severe weakness or extreme fatigue that is much worse than usual
